Integrative / Functional Medicine, What Is It and Why Do I Want It?
The terms Integrative and Functional Medicine are often used interchangeably but there are differences depending on who is offering the care. At Back to Basics Wellness, we strive to use the best of both. The emphasis is on full body health and includes allopathic, osteopathic and complimentary / alternative options. As a patient, you benefit from having more choices that you and your physician can use to improve your overall health.
Dr. Jan is experienced in the treatment of thyroid and adrenal disorders, including Autoimmune Thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s disease). Through a thorough evaluation, medication, diet, and lifestyle changes, patients are educated to better manage their health, motivated to make the changes, and empowered with the knowledge to do so.
Dr. Jan has training and experience in the use of Essential Oils, Herbology, and Homeopathy which allows her to discuss these treatments, counsel patients on correct usage and make recommendations when to use them. We currently offer immune system therapies to help arthritis (LDI’s) and allergies (LDA’s). These therapies desensitize the immune and autoimmune response as appropriate to decrease the need for medications and improve quality of life. Another example of non-toxic and safer choices for individuals with extensive allergies, multiple chemical sensitivities, or arthritis.

Votiva
PEEZING – you know, when you sneeze and pee at the same time. Are you uncomfortable discussing this problem with your doctor? Are you afraid that you will need surgery, pills or Depends for life? There is another option, it is Votiva. Votiva is an FDA approved treatment for Women’s Sexual Health including: urinary incontinence (peezing), pain with sex, thin dry vaginal walls, and hemorrhoids. Treatments involve radio frequency energy to stimulate the healing process throughout the pelvic floor, urethra and genitalia. Most women begin to see improvement with the first treatment.
Alma DUO - Acoustic Wave / Shock Wave Therapy
Shock-wave also known as acoustic wave therapy is not new technology. The original application was in lithotripsy – using ultrasound waves to destroy kidney stones – which is painful but it works. Further research showed that by adjusting the technology, it could be used to treat blood flow issues that are part of the underlying problem causing clitoral and erectile dysfunctions. The ultrasound waves penetrate the tissue and stress the blood vessels that then causes the body to repair and regrow healthy blood vessels thereby restoring strong blood flow to the clitoris or penis. The Alma Duo is an effective, deep penetrating but pain free option to treat sexual dysfunction.
The Alma Duo does more than sexual dysfunction, it is also used to treat musculoskeletal issues like arthritis. The focused ultrasound waves break up small arthritic deposits at the tendon/ligament attachments causing the body to replace the calcified tissue with healthy / flexible tissues. This can increase healing and pain relief in those tender joint attachments.
